Just got back from going for a swim down at the Canadian Bay beach. From my Mount Eliza home unit to the Canadian Bay beach, is just a 1,400 metres (1.4 km) walk or drive according to Google Maps.

On really hot days like today, it can get busy at this beach, but it’s never overcrowded, unlike most other popular bay beaches.

The predominance of family groups creates a great fun beach atmosphere. And being a protected bay beach it’s also quite safe in the water even though it’s not patrolled.

Midweek I often head down to this beach after work to read the paper undisturbed, have a swim and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

There are also set times when dogs are allowed, which means you’ll often see dog lovers out for a walk with their canine mates. It’s great fun to watch the dogs enjoying the beach and going in for a swim.

While most only head down to the beach in summer, I find that even when the weather is cooler it’s a great place for a walk all year round.

Getting there is so easy. Just head north west on Canadian Bay Road which reaches the coast at a point that separates Half Moon and Canadian Bays. There is a reserve on the point with picnic facilities and plenty of car parking spaces.

On the northern side, is a large boat club, and a second car park behind Canadian Bay at the end of Williams Road. A walking track runs along the bluffs above Canadian Bay.
