Living in Mount Eliza
Mount Eliza is a unique community set in a wonderful seaside area full of birds, trees and relaxed friendly people. Some see Mt Eliza as a bayside suburb as the Melbourne CBD is just 48 kilometres and an hour drive to the north away. But as someone who works locally and rarely has to travel into Melbourne, I see it as a seaside village on the doorstep of the Mornington Peninsula set between two bays. Living in Mount Eliza means I don’t feel like I’m just another rodent in the rat race.
The main local shopping centre is known as Mount Eliza Village, at the intersection of Mount Eliza Way and Canadian Bay Road, just 50 metres from my home unit/apartment. It oozes style, charm, sophistication and a certain understated quaintness.
In the village you can spend your money in exclusive boutiques or op shops, read the papers and eat a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner in one of the terrific coffee shops or restaurants. If you feel the need for city shopping, then Frankston is just 7 kilometres away.
I prefer to take long walks on the beautiful secluded beaches, watch multi-coloured lorikeets winging through the sky, or see wild ducks and their babies waddling down the street.
There is a lovely kookaburra that often comes and perches on the front balcony rail of my home unit and looks at me while I read a book out on the balcony or inside in the living room.
Sometimes I head off to the nearby Moorooduc Quarry Flora and Fauna Reserve and make use of the walking tracks throughout the reserve. One track encircles the high cliffs of the quarry, and another the lake at the base of the cliffs. Following the path from Station Street takes you past the ruins of an explosives store.
